Launched in Hong Kong in 2012, the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center for Smoking Cessation and Treatment of Tobacco Dependence aims to support smoking cessation training and program evaluation in the Western Pacific Region. The Center also coordinates local training workshops and engages a consortium of service providers in Hong Kong as key smoking cessation partners. One of the highlights is the yearly Fellowship Programme on Tobacco Control structured according to “MPOWER” laid down by the WHO. The Programme aims to provide evidence-based training on smoking cessation and tobacco control for healthcare professionals in the Western Pacific Region.
Yearly since 2013, Prof. Sophia Chan and Prof. Tai Hing Lam have been invited to speak at 5 Fellowship Programmes organized by the Centre to share our expertise on tobacco control and our smoking cessation research work.
